Oakham is an exceptional place to send your son or daughter. The girls and boys achieve excellent academic results. We have an outstanding Creative Arts department and a national reputation for both sport and music. All of our pupils benefit from an unrivalled range of social, cultural and community activities. We provide a first-class, 21st-century education to prepare students for a demanding global environment.
Students leave Oakham as articulate, active and effective citizens with a broad, international perspective. They fulfil their potential in a vibrant, happy and caring environment, where mutual respect and honesty is embedded in our ethos and our community.
Where learning becomes a lifelong habit
We balance an in-depth love of learning with outstanding pastoral care and a plethora of opportunities and challenges beyond the classroom. We believe in engaging our pupils in a holistic education; the pursuit of academic excellence is at the centre of our philosophy, but also that education in its fullness also embraces the development of moral, social and spiritual values, physical endeavour, creativity and wellbeing. Our Learning Habits at Oakham programme and our unique FOSIL framework for independent research, teaches our pupils how to learn for themselves so that they can truly thrive beyond school. In the words of one of our pupils, "It's not just about the amazing education you get at Oakham, it's about who you are when you leave".
Fulfil your potential
At Oakham, our academic results are consistently impressive, with 87% of our pupils awarded A*-B grades at GCSE and 88% awarded A*-C at A-level; we exceed the worldwide average for the IB Diploma by a considerable margin: our average score is equivalent to three As at A-level.
We care and support
All of our pupils will take their own individual journey through school, guided by a team of enthusiastic, committed teachers, and supported with outstanding pastoral care. The Houses are a central and important part of life at Oakham; after all, they are term time home to our 500 boarders. The houses give pupils emotional and academic support. Each house is run by a knowledgeable Housemaster or Housemistress, closely assisted by house staff who are all experienced members of the teaching community. Each student is a part of a small tutor group and each of the Boarding houses also has a matron who is on hand to offer friendly help and advice. Collectively, they provide an exceptionally caring, supportive and dependable environment, and one which is essential to developing teenagers.
